Rock Report reissue review
BECKETT - Beckett - AOR Heaven Classix 2011
Thanks to labels such as Rock Candy Records and YesterRock, melodic rock fans can easily find reissues of so-called classic albums in their beloved genre. Another label that is doing fine nowadays is AOR Heaven. This reissue of "Beckett" is already the tenth in the recently started AOR Heaven Classix series and it's another jewel in Georg Siegl's crown.
The Beckett in question is Peter Beckett, who was born in England but later moved to L.A., where he founded the band Player, who had a #1 hit with "Baby Come Back". After four successful albums with this band, he started writing material for other artists as well as for movies and television. In 1991 his solo album "Beckett" was released through Curb Records and personally I regard it as a real classic in the AOR & pop/rock genres. "Beckett" was recorded in two parts and in two locations. Half of the album was done at Dennis Lambert's studio with Dennis Lambert himself producing, the other half was done at David J. Holman's studio with Holman and Beckett co-producing. We're now twenty years further down the lane and I still enjoy listening to 'golden' songs like the opener "I Told You So", "My Religion", "Hangin' By A Thread", "Not A Day Goes By" and "Still Of The Night". To make this reissue even more interesting, it comes with no less than 5 demos recorded in the same period. Funnily enough, the "Beckett" album was a kind of side project, because Peter Beckett was very much involved with the Little River Band at the time. He would stay eight years with them. Later he would join Ronn Moss again for a 5th Player album. Maybe you also remember him from "The Bold And The Beautiful" series. Anyway, for all those who miss this "Beckett" album in their record collection: don't hesitate to purchase it asap, you won't regret it at all.
