Rock Report review
Fans of AOR and melodic rock are spoilt these days. While old 'dinosaurs' like Foreigner, Journey and Night Ranger have all released excellent new material (an acoustic live album in the case of Foreigner) during the past months, current bands like White Widdow and Work Of Art are also delivering the goods. The latter recently came up with album #2 and I have to say that "In Progress" is yet another impressive release, that will easily reach 2011's album top three within a couple of months. Robert Säll, the gifted songwriter of the trio, took his time to write a bunch of highly catchy tunes, going even beyond the already high quality of the debut album, "Art Work" (2008). Helped by various bass players (among which Andreas Passmark on 5 tracks) and produced by the guys themselves, "In Progress" is nothing less than an AOR fan's 'wet dream'. Pick whatever track you wish and you will get loads of melodies and hooks, enough to survive for quite some time. It's obvious that the band has been inspired by classic AOR acts like Giant, Journey and (especially) Toto, but who cares as long as the quality of the material is as massive as what we get here? No, I won't mention favourite tracks this time around as all of them are pure gems. By now I'm almost sure which album will top my list at the end of the year. I have only one word left for WOA and that's WOW!
