Rock Report review
Up to now German progressive rock band RPWL hasn't ventured to do a concept album. They reached a peak with their "World Through My Eyes" album (2005), but what we get here with "Beyond Man And Time" is even more interesting. The story in short: the protagonist is on a journey and meets various characters, partly adapted from Nietsche's "Thus Spoke Zarathustra", as means towards new insight. The basic idea in this is a so-called 'revaluation of values' in terms of a new way of thinking. In this world 'beyond man and time', there already are creatures of higher knowledge that the protagonist meets allegorical along his way: the keeper of the cave, the willingly blind, the scientist, the ugliest human, the creator, the shadow, the wise man in the desert and the fisherman. I know, it might seem difficult, but what a pleasure to listen to this gem from start to finish. Without a doubt, this is the best RPWL effort so far. For every single character just named, the musicians have created a musical theme and that's what makes this album such a listening adventure. With each spin it's given, my admiration grows. Growers seem to be the best albums and this is certainly an excellent example. Check it out now, you won't regret it! In addition to the regular version, the album is also available as a bonus edition (including an audio book), but limited to only 2,000 copies.
