Rock Report review
Recently three Scandinavian acts succeeded in grabbing my attention. First there was the fine debut platter of Brother Firetribe, then came the excellent CD from The Poodles and now there's the sophomore effort by Norwegian combo Wig Wam. That band surprised me - and without a doubt many others - by delivering a first platter full of melodic rock tunes instead of a collection of glam rock tunes that went with their colorful image, the album's artwork and the names of the band members (Glam, Teeny, Flash and Sporty). And guess what, "Wig Wamania" offers more of the same. Once again the four members offer the listener a slice of tasty melodic rock armed with catchy choruses. Everything is kept simple and sounds very fresh and that makes the whole thing an easy listening affair that leaves you with a happy feeling. Every now and then I need a platter like this one amidst the more complicated song material that is on offer in our beloved genre. Don't get me wrong here: I'm not saying that the songs on "Wig Wamania" were quickly thrown together or are not well arranged! The best tracks on offer are "Rock My Ride" (that simply demands you to sing along with), "Slave To Your Love" (a bit more laidback but with a great chorus) and the ballads "Bygone Zone" and "At The End Of The Day".
Of the three bands I mentioned at the beginning of this review I consider Wig Wam the weakest of the bunch, because Brother Firetribe and The Poodles have that little extra class that lifts them to a higher level. But that doesn't change the fact that when you decide to buy a copy of "Wig Wamania", you're adding a fine album to your collection.
